Welcome to Storiedland, showcasing the immersive audio work of artist, producer and storyteller, Hamish Sewell. Mobile technology is set to unleash a new generation of creative audio storytelling experiences. Having shape-shifted from writer to radio documentary maker to oral historian to now podcaster producer and the founder of Soundtrails, I believe we're at a profound crossroad for audio storytelling as it shifts from linear broadcast into a hybrid world of mobile connectedness and embodied listening. The ramifications of this shift are huge. Take note all you producers! Audio might be more nebulous than image but with voice, sound, memory and association, audio is a powerful conduit into the imagination and the places and spaces around us.
I hope Storiedland can be many things: an archive into my work, past and present: a launching pad for our up-and-coming Soundtrails - number 13th, the Goonoowigall "Aboriginal Fringe Camp" Soundrails - a first of its kind in Australia - will be going live in the next two months. This site can be a place to explore how artists, producers, developers designers and journalists are rethinking the poor-cousin status of audio in an increasingly mediated world and what new and creative approaches their taking. It will also be a place for me to blog and live stream as I work on geo locative work: in coming months I will be off to the UK to see what's happening there, to talk to the luminaries in this area, and checking out their geo-locative sonic wares. So stay tuned, check out the site and subscribe to keep up to date with all the latest.
Storiedland is now up and running. Yay!
